About Mike

mike's head shot

Mike Lally grew up in Westchester County, NY, and has since spent time in Boston, MA; New Jersey where he ultimately graduated high school and attended college (Fairleigh Dickinson University), and now resides in idyllic Fairport, NY where he drives by a cow and sheep farm every day.

He is a lifelong learner who tends to think strategically. He is interested in solving the bigger problem, not just the problem that everyone sees on the surface.

He spent the last 20 (gasp) years learning how to run various customer facing operations in the financial services and telecom industries. He has built or repaired every kind of operation you can name: customer service, tech support, sales, marketing, inbound, and outbound. He’s built some from the ground up and turned several around that were failing to produce results.

He has worked in a laundry/dry cleaning/tanning/video rental store; co-managed a record shop (back when there will still both records and record shops); been an economist; was registered to buy and sell mutual funds; grew a 3-person Internet support team to 60 people; and has been a partner in a business that failed.

In his spare time, he writes this blog about managing yourself, your team and your company. He recently gave a presentation on “Using Social Media in Your Job Search” which focused on managing your online id.

In 1998, he married Karen at the Flamingo in Las Vegas (yes, Elvis was with us) and in 2001, they managed to have a baby girl, Erin, who decided she was going to be 72 days (11 weeks) early. Both are fine now (although Erin decided to go back to the hospital in 2009 for 15 days with pneumonia). In his spare time he works on all kinds of craft projects with Erin; listens to many different genres of music; roots for the Boston Red Sox and the New York Giants; is a bit of a game nerd; worries over his Square Foot Garden; and is just beginning a yoga practice.

You can also find him on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter.

You should add to your introduction..’an excellent mentor’, ‘ a wonderful person’, ‘friend of friends’, ‘creative beyond imagination’… the list is long :)

I still read your blogs… and miss the little chat we had about them. :(
